Step 1. Inspect the pineapple
Ripe pineapple has an oval shape, a dry peduncle and a thick shoot (sultan) 10-12 cm long. Eyes are yellow-brown in color with slightly dried tips. Between them there should be dark green or brownish grooves.
The green peel indicates the immaturity of the fetus, and brown or burgundy – about its spoilage.
Do not take pineapple with brown spots and whitish grooves. These are signs of rot and mold.
Step 2. Push and tap
Having chosen an appetizing fruit with your eyes, take it in your hands. The peel of a ripe pineapple is firm and elastic. When pressed, the eyes should squeeze and recover immediately. If they pressed, but the dent remained, the fruit began to deteriorate. If the pineapple is harder than coconut, it is not ripe.

Step 3. Twist the Sultan
In stores, plucked pineapples are often found. Allegedly, the ripeness of pineapple can be determined by the inner leaf of the shoot. This is not true. For example, in a rotten fetus, the inner leaf is also separated without effort.
The sight of the Sultan is much more revealing. A ripe pineapple has a dark green shoot with slightly dried tips. The bright green sultan speaks of the immaturity of the fetus – the pulp will be hard, dry and tasteless. Brown leaves are a sign of damage.
Take the sultan at the base and try to turn a little. Succumb to? You have a ripe fruit in your hands. Not? Pineapple cut too early. Just don’t overdo it: the ripe pineapple shoot easily comes off with your hands, and other buyers have probably tried to do this before you.
Step 4. Smell
Keep the pineapple at arm’s length. Feel a pleasant sweet aroma? You have chosen a great fruit!
Green pineapple does not smell, spoiled gives rot.
Can a pineapple ripen at home
Pineapples are grown in Central and South America, as well as Southeast Asia. Harvesting on plantations occurs three times a year. And, unlike bananas, pineapples do not reach after cutting.
The immature pineapple flesh burns the lips, knits the mouth and can cause indigestion.
It makes no sense to hang the fruit upside down, keep it warm or cold. If the pineapple was cut green, sweetness and juiciness should not be given to it.
How to store pineapple
How mature a pineapple can be checked by pressing a finger on the skin. If the fruit is ripe, then the peel after pressing will fall into place again. It happens that pineapple bought fresh, but unripe. In this case, it is left to lie down for no more than 3 days, otherwise the fruit will become stained.
The fruit, peeled and cut into slices, is also stored for about 3 days , only you should first cover it with cling film and place in the refrigerator.
Unpeeled pineapple can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks by wrapping paper and periodically turning it over.
Some housewives prefer to freeze fruits. Before sending the pineapple into the freezer, it must be peeled and cut into slices. Then put in a special container. Thus, the fruit will be usable for about four months.
Ripe fruit is recommended to be stored in the refrigerator. Pack the pineapple in a cardboard bag and put in a fruit box.
Keep the pineapple in the refrigerator for no more than a week.
To extend the shelf life, peel, cut and freeze the pulp. In the freezer, pineapple lies quietly for two to three months
